How to install Toc on a computer without a DVD drive

Here's how to get Toc working on a netbook or other computer that does not have a DVD drive. These directions are for Windows computers and have been tested on Windows 7 and Windows XP. I have not attempted to do this with a Mac.

You will need:

- A computer with a working DVD drive

- Daemon Tools Lite, which can be obtained here (It's the blue text link that says "download," the two images that look like download links are both ads). Daemon Tools Lite is a free program that allows you to create and use virtual copies of discs.

- The Toc DVD

- A way to move a 2.52 GB file between the two computers. I used an external hard drive. A flash drive or email could also work as long as they can handle the file size.

Download and install Daemon Tools Lite on both your computer with a DVD drive and your computer without a DVD drive.

During installation, you will need to choose a few options:

- First, when asked about license type, choose "free license" in order to use the software for free.

- Next, when asked to choose components, I recommend choosing only "integrate with Windows Explorer," "desktop shortcut" and "start menu shortcuts." The other components you can choose will put advertisements in your web browser, which you may find annoying or disruptive.

- Finally, when asked to "support the Daemon Tools team" you should uncheck the box that says "Browser's start page." This is another advertisement in your web browser, which you probably don't want.

You will need to restart your computer at the end of installation. After the restart, you will have a virtual DVD drive available on your computer and you will be able to create virtual discs.

Create a virtual copy of Toc using the computer that has a DVD drive.

1. Put your Toc DVD into the DVD drive.

2. On your computer's start bar there will be a small icon that looks like a blue lightning bolt in a circle for Daemon Tools. You may need to click the arrow to show hidden icons in order to see it. Right click this icon and select "disc imaging" from the menu that appears.

3. In the window that appears, select the DVD drive that Toc is in from the drop down menu at the top.

4. In the middle of the window, click the "..." button to pick a folder to put your Toc file in and choose a name for the file.

5. Then, click the "start" button at the bottom of the window to create a virtual copy of Toc. When the copy is complete, you will find your virtual copy of Toc in the folder you chose.

Transfer your virtual copy of Toc to your computer without a DVD drive.

Find your virtual copy of Toc on the computer with a DVD drive and use a USB hard drive, a flash drive, email, or any other method that works for you to move it to the computer without a DVD drive.

Install Toc on the computer without the DVD drive.

1. Double click on your virtual copy of Toc, which should have the blue lightning bolt Daemon Tools icon. This should trigger your computer to offer auto-play options as it would for a real DVD. If auto-play doesn't pop up after you double click your virtual copy of Toc, you can go to My Computer (Computer on Windows 7) and click on the icon for your virtual DVD drive, which will probably be "D" on a computer that does not have any disc drives.

2. Install Toc just as you would normally.
